JAMB CANCELS 2016 ADMISSION LIST (POSTING)

Jamb Cancels 2016 Admission List Jamb Cancels 2016 Admission List Here is the deal. You remember that Jamb Admission Consideration stuff? That Jamb Posting stuff? That Jamb list of recommended candidates? Yeah, Jamb has withdrawn that Admission List… Why? See details below.. jamb withdraws admission The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has withdrawn the list of recommended candidates for admission earlier sent to tertiary institutions. The examination body on Sunday explained that the decision was to ensure that the Senate of Universities perform their statutory responsibility of conducting the selection of candidates and refer it to JAMB for confirmation in line with the admission criteria of merit, catchment and educationally disadvantaged states as directed by the Minister of Education, Alhaji Adamu Adamu, at the policy committee meeting. The statement, signed by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, said the earlier list was sent to help fast track the process of admission so as to allow other tiers of institutions also conduct their admission. “Candidates should not panic because this is part of the process of the 2016 admission exercise. JAMB regrets any inconvenience this decision would have caused the tertiary institutions. “The Board regrets any inconvenience it’s proactive step would have caused the tertiary institutions,” the statement added. Why Admission Criteria Remain Unpredictable Even With the New JAMB Model

Reactions and counter-reactions have been trailing the release of the new JAMB admission screening model, which is supposed to be a guideline for admitting students into tertiary institutions in the country. What many do not know is that the admission process into Nigerian tertiary institutions has never been and will never be transparent or predictable as long as the current factors surrounding it remain. What I mean is that even with the current JAMB admission model, you still cannot confidently tell if you are qualified or not qualified for admission this year. Until the admission model becomes such that a candidate can confidently predict his or her admission before the admission list is released and it turns out so, then we still do not have a credible admission model. What makes you even think that institutions will religiously follow this model without undue compromise? By the way, don’t mind my tone. I’m only trying to bare the situation in black and white. JAMB has disclosed that institutions will only screen candidates sent to them by JAMB. The question is on what basis will JAMB determine the candidates to be sent to a particular institution? Don’t try to guess. The simple truth is that you don’t really know. As long as factors like catchment area, educationally less developed States (ELDS), admission quota, and other subtle ones remain determinants of admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions, I don’t think the new JAMB admission model makes any substantive difference because at the end of the day you still won’t be able to determine or tell what factors qualified or disqualified you for admission as the case may be. This has always been the situation in previous years, where by a candidate that scored above the required cut-off mark for a particular course is denied admission and another candidate that scored less is given admission into the same course. Do you think the new JAMB admission model will change any of that? No way! As long as the factors I mentioned earlier remain, nothing will change in that regard. In most countries, tertiary institutions have their requirements, once you meet the requirements, your admission is as sure as death. It’s that simple. But you cannot say that about Nigeria. May be we will develop to that level with time when our institutions have developed the capacity to accommodate the teeming population of admission seekers yearly. But for now, the present reality remains. If you are still wondering what I am driving at, let me spell it out; admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions as it stands is more like 50% effort and 50% game of luck. So instead of breaking your head over what the new JAMB admission model means and does not mean, you should rather make sure you put in your own part of the 50% and then count on luck, influence or what my church folks will call divine favour to produce the other 50% for you.

JAMB Proposed Model For Screening Of Recommended Candidates

We are dedicating this thread towards enlightening candidates seeking admission into higher institutions on what the recently proposed JAMB Admission screening model for admissions actually means. For the sake of emphasis and clarity, the raw facts will be omitted. What you have here is the interpretation of the raw facts to allay the confusion of many candidates. But if you are interested on the raw facts, you can find that HERE. If the proposed model for admission as proposed by JAMB is to be adopted for 2016/2017 admission process, below is how the admission process will run and all you should know about it. 1. JAMB must offer a candidate an admission before such candidates qualifies for screening in the institution he or she has been provisionally admitted. This means that institutions can only screening candidates sent to them by JAMB as having been provisionally admitted in such institution. 2. Institutions admission screening processes will now be based on point system. The first on the point system is the O'level grading. Candidates who have only one O-level result will stand a better chance of gaining admission than candidates with 2 results. One 0'level result = 10marks/points while two O'level results = 3 marks/points. Similarly, each grade will now have its equivalent points/marks in this manner; A=6 marks, B=4 marks, C=3 marks which means the having better grades in your O'level result gives you a better chance of securing admission. The next to be considered on the point system is your UTME Score. Candidates will be awarded marks/points based on their 180-200=20-23 marks, 200-250=24-33 points, 251-300=34-43, 300-400=44-60 points. The higher your score, the higher your chances of securing admission. This means that what we previously know as institutions cut-off-marks will now be known as institutions cut-off points which will be arrived at after putting all the aforementioned into consideration. 3. JAMB provisional admission is now a means to an end and not an end itself. This means that JAMB may offer a candidate a provisional admissions and such candidate will still be denied admission by his/her institution because he or she comes below the cut-off point for his/her course in that particular institution. For instance you may be given provisional admission to study MBBS in UNIBEN by JAMB having obtained a UTME score of 260. If your institution's cut-off point for medicine is 95 points and you come below that number of points after the screening, you will likely be denied admission. 4. Admission process will still put into considerations factors like catchment area and ELDS (Educationally Less Developed States) in determining the number of candidates admitted. Admission by merit is 45%, catchment area 35% and ELDS 20%. The issue of Science to arts ratio will still be in place. For universities Science to arts ratio will be 60:40 , Polytechnics 70:30. However for specialized institutions (Technology, Science Agriculture etc) it will be 100% related to their specialty. Also 90% of admission will go to UTME candidates while 10% will go to Direct Entry candidates. 5. Schools are still at liberty to charge a certain fee for the screening of candidates. However, the Board did not stipulate how much institutions are to charge for this.

2016 JAMB Change of Course and Institution

Due to some hitches experienced on JAMB change of course and institution portal lately, the 2016 JAMB Change of Course and Institution has been extended.

However, this extension will not be long. The official closing date for 2016 JAMB Change of course/institution is on Friday 13th, May 2016.There will be no further extension.

We understand that many candidates are waiting to know the cut-off marks of their respective institutions before making the decision on whether or not to go for change of course and institution. However, many of this institution usually wait until announcing their post-UTME sales of forms to make known their cut-off marks.

If you wait that long, you may have only succeeded in putting yourself in an unfavourable position because change of course and institution would have been very much over by that time.

So what you should rather do is make your decision based on the previous Post-UTME cut off marks of these institutions and effect the necessary changes immediately.

YABATECH Expels Six Final Year Students For Result Forgery

Six students of Yaba College of Technology have been expelled for presenting fake or altered National Diploma (ND) and National Certificate of Education (NCE) results for admission.

This was contained in a circular signed by the Deputy Registrar of the institution Mrs Taiwo Obadimu.

The students who were in the departments of Food Technology, Mathematics and Integrated Science, Physics Education, Estate Management and Valuation, Industrial Technical Education and Industrial Maintenance Engineering were directed by the circular to hand over all college property, including student identity cards in their possession, to the heads of their department, the Polytechnic Librarian and the Dean of Students’ Affairs, with immediate effect.

House of Reps Backtracks, Endorses JAMB CBT

The House of Representatives seems to be talking out of both sides of its mouth with the recent report that it has endorsed the JAMB CBT.

It would be recalled that the Hose of Reps earlier directed that JAMB revert to the use of PPT or adopt the two and allow candidates make their choice.

In a recent development, the Chairman of the House Committee on Basic Education, Mr Zakari Muhammed, during a visit to one of the CBT centres, said the members of the House Committee on Basic Education have thrown their weight to the Computer-Based Test as it is part of the Federal Government’s plan to improve the education sector and in line with with global best practices.

In his words, “Basically, we need to be educated more. We are in support of the CBT and we cannot go back to paper-pencil; we must be in tandem with the world in the conduct of our examinations.

“The House (of Representatives) did not take any position on CBT, but there were fractions on the floor as to the adoption of both methods and I believe it is the reason why the House Committee on Basic Education was mandated to investigate. Nigeria cannot afford to maintain double standard as we know other African countries such as Uganda have been to our country to replicate our system such as the CBT.”.

JAMB used wrong software for 2016 UTME – Group

The Association of Tutorial School Operators (ATSO) has accused the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) of using the wrong grading software to mark the 2016/2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The group claimed that the error was responsible for the poor and conflicting results that were released by the board for the examination written between February 27 and March 17 in over 500 centres nationwide.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos on Wednesday, President of the group, Shodunke Oludotun, alleged that the board erroneously used the software from last year to grade this year’s examination.
He called for the release of the right results, as well as the resignation of the JAMB Registrar, Prof ‘Dibu Ojerinde.
“We have our evidence to show that virtually all the candidates we have collected results of 2015/2016 and not of 2016/2017.
“This year, Prof Dibu Ojerinde advertised 2016/2017 UTME – we all saw it. During his press conference, he also mentioned 2016/2017. During the exam, the students on their monitor, it displayed 2016/2017. Why is it that the result that was sent to the students showed 2015/2016?
“From our findings from insiders in JAMB, we realized that the software of 2015/2016 interfered with the 2016/2017, which led to the massive failure of the students. If you can see the trend of results from (February) 27 to 29, the students failed; (March) 7-15, the students failed massively.
“But we noticed that the 27-29 were compensated with 40 marks still under the interference of software. We can see that the 2015/2016 software was used to mark, that was why the students were receiving 2015/2016 results. So where is 2016/2017 result? That is what we are asking Prof Dibu Ojerinde. We are saying that Prof Dibu Ojerinde should step aside.”
“This Association of Tutorial School Operators, we are not against CBT. CBT has really helped to bring more students to tutorial centres. It makes them to be serious; and we have taught them. But for CBT, the whole JAMB exam would have been messed up. Because before CBT, it will only take you N2,000 for Cyber café to send the answers to you. So I want to say that we appreciate the professor for introducing the CBT; and we are in support of CBT,” he said.
Responding to ATSO’s allegations of software mishap, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Director of Media and Public Relations, said whether 2010 or 2019 software was used, what was important was the programming and not the marking guide.
“I am not a programmer, but I can confirm to you that JAMB does not joke with its template. What happened with the 40 marks issue is because the scripts were marked based on 250 marks because only English Language is 100 while the other three papers carry 50 marks, making a total of 250.
“So when the first results were released, they were calculated based on 250, and after normalization we felt it would not be ideal for us to cheat on the candidates. So we had to quickly send them their real scores,” Benjamin stated.
He refuted claims that the House Committee on Education had ordered the board to revert to PPT. Onl the contrary, he said the committee praised JAMB for introducing the CBT.
“The House never considered ordering the examinationn to revert to PPT; individual members only raised suggestions,” he said.

Your Brain Has Power To Change

A top official of the Federal Ministry of Education, who pleaded anonymity has told the Daily Times in an exclusive chat that the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, had scolded the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) over the shoddy conduct of this years’ examination and the myriad of controversies that have been trailing the exercise.
The official also disclosed that the Minister is preparing to make appropriate representations to the Federal Executive Council to effect a leadership change at the agency.

‘’Ojerinde’s time appears to be running out fast at JAMB, not with the controversies this time including failure in the technology, late upload of  released results, wrong posting of scores with some candidates being awarded greater than what they actually scored while others had their scores downgraded,’’ the official said.
As if corroborating the above concerns, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, admitted that challenges associated with Computer Based Test were partly technical which in time will be addressed.
Addressing journalists on the conduct of the 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations, the JAMB Registrar urged Nigerians to embrace the Computer Based test as a benefit to the Nigerian child and also work with the board to ensure its success.
Prof. Ojerinde, who said it is becoming a war conducting examinations in Nigeria following the activities of owners of special centers, accused proprietors of tutorial schools of being behind the protests which was recently carried out by candidates of the last UTME, who stormed the Lagos State House of Assembly recently to protest alleged maltreatment by JAMB in the examination.

We’ve not cancelled entire 2016 examination results – JAMB

He said: “I want to say that we are making efforts to come up with new selection method and approval of the centres we shall be using for the conduct of our examination henceforth.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board says it will review criteria for selecting centres for its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.
Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the board’s Head of Media and Information, disclosed this in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Lagos.
Benjamin acknowledged that there were technical hitches in about 20 of the 520 centres registered to host the 2016 UTME on the Computer Based Test platform nationwide.
He said: “I want to say that we are making efforts to come up with new selection method and approval of the centres we shall be using for the conduct of our examination henceforth.
“We shall be considering using more of public-owned centres and a few organised privately owned centres.
“From statistics available to us, we have discovered that most of the issues we had with centres during the examination were associated with those with private concerns.”
While expressing the board’s regret over the technical problem, Benjamin, however, said he was happy that the conduct of the examination was generally successful.
He noted that over 1.6 million candidates sat for the examination within and outside the country.
Benjamin re-iterated that the board had not cancelled the entire results of the 2016 examination as was being speculated.
According to him, the board is finalizing modalities for the re-take of the examination by only those with genuine cases.

JAMB Is Withdrawing The 40 Marks – Please Recheck Your JAMB Result

We have received complaints from JAMB candidates that the much publicized 40 marks purportedly added to candidates' scores especially those that wrote on the 27th and 29th of February has been withdrawn as the board has revealed that it was actually a technical bug.

Candidates are therefore advised to re-check their scores as to be sure of the right step to take.

For instance, if you are one of those who initially received the 40 marks, now that it has been deducted, your score may likely fall below the cut off mark of your choice institution or course which implies that you may need to go for a JAMB Change of Course and Institution.

It is obvious that some candidates must have exceeded the number of times that they are suppose to check for their results free on JAMB portal. For such candidates your only option now is to get your JAMB Original Result Slip (the one that has your passport photograph on it).
